The Kiwis have been battling injury woes ahead of the upcoming test series against India.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand all rounder Jimmy Neesham was ruled out of the opening Test match against India in Kanpur due to a rib injury he suffered during the warm-up match against Mumbai.

Neesham's pull out follows seamer Tim Southee, who was ruled of the three-match series due to an ankle injury. Neesham is expected to be fit for the second Test, which begins on September 30 in Kolkata.

Neesham picked up the injury during training on last Thursday, and it had affected his participation in the warm-up fixture against Mumbai in Delhi. He didn't bat in both innings and bowled just five overs.

"Jimmy was struck in the nets and has been in discomfort the last few days. It will take a few days for the bruising to go away, but it's very much a short-term injury," New Zealand coach was quoted as saying by Cricinfo.
