India ended Day 1 of the Galle Test in a commanding position after centuries from Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara helped the visitor's post 399 for 3 at stumps. India was given the impetus up front by Shikhar Dhawan who scored a belligerent 190 knock. Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara played the sheet anchor's role to perfection scoring a well compiled century
