Match summary: Day 4
England openers Haseeb Hameed and Alastair Cook batted brilliantly to script a century stand in the second innings. Their unbeaten partnership took the lead to 163 while putting India under tremendous pressure.
Hameed, the youngest debutant to open for England in a test match, scored a majestic half century as the Indian bowlers looked clueless while bowling to him. He was comfortable against both seam and spin and seems all set for a big score on Sunday.
Earlier, Indian all rounder Ravichandran Ashwin rallied the tailenders around him to take India's first innings score to 488; thus restricting England's first innings lead to a meagre 49 runs.
The match has been dominated by England from the beginning while Indian spinners completely failed to exploit the home advantage.
On day 3, Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara scored brilliant hundreds to take India out of any possible threat of succumbing to England’s massive score of 537.
