Indian batsman and one of the brilliant fielders that India have experience in their squad, Mohammad Kaif on Friday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket with immediate effect, exactly 16 years after he and Yuvraj Singh scripted one of India's most famous and memorable ODI victories at the Lord's.

The former Under-19 world cup winning captain posted an emotional message on twitter to hang his boots, almost 12 years after he last played for India.

"When I started playing Cricket, the dream was to play in the India Cap one day.Have been very fortunate to step on to the field & represent my country on 190 days of my life. Today is an apt day for me to announce my retirement from all competetive Cricket. Thank you everyone," he wrote on his Twitter account.

The 37-year-old last donned the Indian jersey in 2006.

Kaif made his debut for India in a Test against South Africa in 2000, adding his ODI cap a couple of years later, against England at Kanpur. But, he will always be remebered for his match-winning knock of 87 at the Lord's during the nail-biting Natwest Trophy final in 2002.

Alongside Yuvraj Singh at point, Kaif formed an undisputed fielding partnership during the time Sourav Ganguly led the Indian cricketing comback.

Kaif represented India in 13 Tests and 125 ODIs.

The acrobatic fielder won the Ranji Trophy for Uttar Pradesh and later played for Chattisgarh in domestic cricket.

The Allahabad-born Kaif also played 29 games in the IPL, his last match being way back in 2012.
