In less than five months’ time, we will be witnessing the arch-rivals India-Pakistan taking on each other in the 2019 World Cup. Interestingly, In the history of the World Cup games played so far, Pakistan has never been able to upstage India. On the other hand, the record in Champions Trophy is also in India's favour (12-3).
After all these records in the ICC tournaments, India is expected to be a better side on the given day. However, the former Pakistan skipper and wicket-keeper Moin Khan has backed Sarfaraz-led Pakistan team to break the jinx against India at the forthcoming World Cup 2019 in England.
He based his opinions after recollecting Pakistan’s performance at the Champions Trophy Final against India in 2017 and believes that English conditions suit the men-in-green perfectly.
In conversation with GTV News channel, he said, "This present team is very capable of recording a first win over India in a World Cup because there is talent, there are depth and variety and Sarfaraz Ahmed has now gelled the squad well. I say this because our boys beat them (India) in the Champions Trophy two years back and I just feel that in English conditions in June we have better bowlers."
RELATED
Despite his words, he also added that India and England are the hot favourites at the showpiece event and will be the team to beat.
"This should be a very interesting World Cup and I am backing Pakistan to beat India. Our boys are in good spirits and it is good they will go into the competition after having played ODI matches against South Africa, Australia, and England," he said.
Meanwhile, Pakistan suffered a humiliating loss against South Africa in all three formats of the game. Sarfaraz’s team didn’t manage to come anywhere close to South Africa in the longest format of the game as they suffered a whitewash. The results of the one-day series and T20 series aren't happening either. Seeing this, Pakistan will look to tick the boxes before the start of the 12th edition of World Cup.
"Pakistan has been one team which has done well in England in the last many years and in May-June the weather can be unpredictable and there is moisture in the pitches," said Moin.
