India are without a doubt the favourites for the Nidahas T20 tri-series which is being played between the Men in Blue, the hosts Sri Lanka and South Asian rivals Bangladesh.
India were fairly confident by the looks of the team selection as they rested six of the starting XI players including skipper Virat Kohli, all-rounder Hardik Pandya and bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah.
The opening match came as a massive surprise for the Men in Blue after being defeated by the host by 5 wickets and it was this big a surprise because this defeat was coming against a team whom India had dominated in the past few months across all formats.
The top order which includes the skipper for the series Rohit Sharma and Chennai Super Kings hitman Suresh Raina was unsound, while the bowling line-up of Shardul Thakur, Vijay Shankar and the costliest Indian player in IPL 2018 Jaydev Unadkat failed to stop the Lankan side from chasing the total of 175.
Stat Attack: 175 was the highest total chased at Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
India take on Bangladesh on Thursday and will be hoping to register their first win of the series. History favours India, as they have won all 5 matches played against Bangladesh in T20s. But India cannot afford to be complacent anymore after their defeat against Sri Lanka and that too against a team that almost eliminated them in T20 World Cup 2016. The previous time both the teams met, India picked up a victory in the final by a single run and that caused a lot of heat amongst both sets of fans on social media. Rohit Sharma would like a much more easy evening than that.
Bangladesh who are suffering from poor form are pretty low on confidence. Injury to regular captain Shakib Al-Hasan would damage the morale for Lankans even more. Interim skipper Mahmudullah would be hoping to capitalize on India’s defeat and set up another surprise for the visiting Indian team.

Sharma also would be looking to make few changes to the team that played against Sri Lanka. Yuzvendra Chahal who got thrashed for runs in the first T20 might be replaced by Axar Patel. KL Rahul could also return to the playing XI to boost up the middle order and he might be the one who could unlock the Bangladesh bowling attack during the powerplay.
IPL 2018’s most expensive Indian player Jaydev Unadkat will have to learn from his mistake after giving away 35/1 in 3 overs at an economy of 11.67, whereas Shardul Thakur has to be more disciplined and aggressive at the same time while maintaining better line and length than the previous encounter. Both the pacers bowled half volleys to Sri Lankan batsmen with lackluster variety and were punished mercilessly. It is not a do-or-die match for India, but a defeat against Bangladesh, would certainly make things more difficult for them in the series.
