Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir took a sharp swipe at the sensational revelations on Danish Kaneria controversy. “This is the actual face of Pakistan, on the other side we have got people like Mohammad Azharuddin captaining India for such a long time, despite being a minority,” the former skipper was quoted as saying. "India gave so much respect to Mohammad Kaif, Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel. In fact, Patel is my close friend. We always played as a team to make our country proud. But the reports coming in from Pakistan are really unfortunate," Gambhir further said.
On Thursday, Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has said that he will soon reveal names of players of the Pakistan cricket team who mistreated him for being a Hindu. His statement came after his former Pakistan teammate Shoaib Akhtar revealed how some players did not even like Kaneria and even hated to eat with him.
Talking about Shoaib Akhtar's allegations, Kaneria confirmed that they were true.
"He told the truth. I will reveal names of players who didn't like to talk to me as I was a Hindu. Didn't have courage to speak on it, but now I will," he told ANI.
Danish Kaneria was only the second Hindu player after Anil Dalpat to represent Pakistan in international cricket. Akhtar said that Kaneria's Pakistani teammate even barred him from picking up food from the same table as others because of his faith.
"Captain would raise eyebrows about him eating with us or taking the food from the same table. I told him that you could be the captain but your conduct is despicable. This guy (Kaneria) is chalking up so many wickets to win matches for us and you're treating him like this," Shoaib Akhtar spoke on a cricket show titled 'Game on Hai'.
Akhtar also alleged that Danish Kaneria never got any credit for his exceptional performances.
