Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Rangana Herath rewrote the cricket record books as he broke Daniel Vettori's record for the most number of wickets taken by a left-arm spinner in the history of Test cricket.

The 38-year-old veteran spinner overtook former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori’s tally of 362 wickets when he scalped Litton Das on the Day 4 of the ongoing Test against Bangladesh at Galle.

Herath is now only behind Pakistan's legendary seam bowler Wasim Akram in terms of the most wickets by a left arm bowler.Akram has 414 Test wickets to his name.

The left-arm spinner also went past Pakistan legend Imran Khan's tally for 362 Test wickets in the history of Test cricket when he removed Das in the post lunch session.
