India batsman and Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Tuesday donated Rs 80 lakh to combat the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country. It is to be noted that Rohit Sharma has donated Rs 45 lakh to Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation Fund (PM-CARES Fund) and Rs 25 lakh to CM's Relief Fund (Maharashtra). Additionally, he has given Rs 5 lakh to 'Zomato Feeding India' and another Rs 5 lakh to help aid the welfare of stray dogs.
In a tweet, the vice-captain of the Indian ODI team said, "We need our country back on feet & the onus is on us. I've done my bit to donate 45lakhs to #PMCaresFunds, 25lakhs to #CMReliefFund Maharashtra, 5lakhs to @FeedingIndia and 5lakhs to #WelfareOfStrayDogs. Let's get behind our leaders and support them @narendramodi @CMOMaharashtra."

This comes days after Suresh Raina pledged to donate Rs 31 lakh to PM-CARES Fund and Rs 21 lakh to UP CM’s Disaster Relief Fund. Other Indian sportsmen including Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane generously donated for the cause.

In India, the death count has reached 38 due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus in the country. According to the latest update, the coronavirus cases has crossed 1,300-mark in India. Maharashtra is one of the worst affected states in the pandemic with the positive cases in the state standing at 225 till today morning.
It is worth mentioning here that the novel coronavirus, which originated in China, has claimed over 35,000 lives across the world. With no known cure so far for the coronavirus, the deadly disease has become a major issue for the entire world.
