Rohit Sharma's spot in the Indian test squad under fire

Flamboyant Batsman - Rohit Sharma

Batting ace Rohit Sharma's inclusion in the Indian test squad for the upcoming test home series against the Kiwis shall be the main focal point of debate at the BBCI selection meeting under Chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar that commences on September 12 in Mumbai.

The selectors are expected to bolster the Indian batting unit and spruce up their spin attack considering the fact that they are playing on home turf. The Indian tweakers shall like to cast a web around the Kiwis who have been circumspect at playing spin on the turning Indian tracks.

Bestowed with immense natural talent and ability, Rohit has been below par in the purest form courtesy his lack of mental fortitude and rash shot selection. Sharma has been an enigma of sorts as he has been brilliant as a free flowing one day opener but struggled to find his feet as an accomplished test batsman.

The selectors have given a long enough run to the dashing batsman to his prove his credentials in tests but the talented batsman's career has been plagued by inconsistencies. Meanwhile Rohit's place could be safeguarded by his skipper Virat Kohli who strongly feels that he shall definitely come good if given a longer run.

In the past, too much of talent without the requisite application to fine tune skill levels  has led to catastrophic ends to what seemed like promising careers. One hopes that the Mumbai blaster's test career doesn't go down the Vinod Kambli or Praveen Amre way.

Rohit has never had a consistent run in tests after exploding onto the international scene with his back to back hundreds against the West Indies. In the recent series against the West Indies in the Caribbean, he featured in two out of four games, one of which was washed out, and he could only manage paltry scores of 9 and 41 in the two innings of the third Test at Gros Islet.

Rohit hasn't championed his selection cause in any manner as he failed to score big in the first innings of the ongoing Duleep Trophy final in Greater Noida after being specifically included in one of the teams -- India Blue -- following his return from the West Indies and the USA.

Sharma shall face intense completion from the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey and Karun Nair who have pressing for a place in the test squad courtesy their prolific run scoring in the domestic season.

Meanwhile top-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara who was under a spot of bother after his dismal outing in the the Caribbean has made a resounding comeback with his back-to-back hundreds in the Duleep Trophy.
