Shashank Manohar on Wednesday stepped down as chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with immediate effect citing personal reasons. Shashank Manohar, a former BCCI president, who was elected unopposed as the first independent chairman of the ICC tendered his resignation to ICC CEO David Richardson.
According to a report in India Today, in his letter to Richardson, Manohar stated that it is not possible for him to hold the august office of ICC Chairman and hence is tendering his resignation as Chairman with immediate effect.
In his letter Manohar goes on to add, "I have tried to do my best and have tried to be fair and impartial in deciding matters in the functioning of the Board and in matters related to Member Boards along with the able support of all Directors."
