Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is set to return to India from Sri Lanka on Sunday, September 3 in order to attend his ailing mother, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s statement said. The statement further added that Dhawan's mother is in a stable condition.
He will not be a part of the fifth and final ODI match to be played on Sunday and the upcoming lone T20I. No replacement will be sent for the remaining two fixtures.
The Indian opener has been in scintillating form since the Champions Trophy and scored two majestic centuries in the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka.
He has also been in tremendous form in the ongoing ODI series and has scored an unbeaten 132, 49, 5 and 4 in the first four matches of the tour.
India has already wrapped up the 5 match series 4-0 and will look to whitewash the Lankans on their own den. In the absence of Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane will most likely open along with Rohit Sharma in Sunday's ODI.
