  • Gautam Gambhir scored a double century against Zimbabwe in 2002.
  • Shubman Gill is the leading run-getter in the one-dayers and Tests in the tour of West Indies.
  • Shubman Gill was the leading run-getter in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup.

New Delhi:

Shubman Gill had announced himself on the world stage when he blasted 372 runs in five games during the Under-19 World Cup. Gill's contributions, combined with the magnificent batting and leadership of Prithvi Shaw helped India win the Under-19 World Cup for the fourth time when they defeated Australia in the final. A year later, Gill has entered the history books during the unofficial 'Test' between India A and West Indies A held in  Trinidad and Tobago.

Gill smashed 204 and shared a partnership of 315 with Hanuma Vihari, who hit 118 as India A declared on 365/4, giving West Indies A a target of 373. Gill created history as he became the youngest-ever Indian cricketer to hit a first-class century, breaking the previous record held by Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir was 20 when he notched up 218 for India Board President's XI against the Zimbabweans in a tour match in 2002. Gill is currently 19 years and 335 days.

India A has dominated in their tour of the West Indies, winning the one-dayers 4-1 and they have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match 'Test' series. Gill was the leading run-getter in the one-day series when he smashed 218 runs in four games at an average of 77.

The Punjab batsman played one game for India in the tour of New Zealand in February and many believe that he was unlucky to have missed out on selection for the 2019 World Cup where India was eliminated in the semi-final with their 18-run loss to New Zealand.
