When one looks at a six being hit of the last ball to help a side win a match, the names Javed Miandad, MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik crop into our mind as they smashed last ball sixes to help their side achieve an impossible. However, a local cricket match saw the most bizarre finish of them all. Six runs were needed off one ball, the batsman did not hit a single shot, yet his team won with one ball to spare. True story! How was this feat achieved? Well, this feat actually took place in a local cricket match in Padlegaon in Thane district of Maharashtra and the action was hilarious at the same time strange.
In a local match between Desai and Juni Dombivli, Desai had to chase a chase a target of 76 against Juni Dombivli. The Desai team managed to reach 70/4 in 4.5 overs and the team needed six runs off one ball. This was the moment when Juni Dombivli decided to change the course of the match in the most dramatic fashion. The unknown left-arm pacer, who had bowled well till that time, bowled the first ball wide outside off and the umpire signaled a wide. The second, third, fourth and fifth balls were all wide and the scores were level in the most bizarre fashion. With the fielders coming up, the bowler bowled a sixth consecutive wide and the match was won by Desai with still one ball to spare. The bowler not only had to face the wrath of the fielders but also the captain.

After the sixth ball was bowled a wide, the fielder standing at slip flung the ball to the ground in disgust and the captain ran from midwicket to angrily gesture towards the bowler.

In this way, a match was decided in a bizarre manner with six runs needed off one ball. However, on the international cricket scene, batsmen who have hit a six off the last ball to win the game for their country have gained legendary status. Javed Miandad hit a last-ball six off Chetan Sharma in the final of a tournament in Sharjah in 1986 while MS Dhoni hit a six off the last ball against Sri Lanka in Port of Spain, Trinidad in 2013 to help India win the final.
Dhoni did it again, this time the double Miandad. Needing 12 runs off two balls in the IPL 2017 game between Rising Pune Supergiant and Kings XI Punjab in Vizag, Dhoni blasted two consecutive sixes off left-arm spinner Axar Patel to win the match in grand style. In the 2018 Nidahas Trophy final between India and Bangladesh, Dinesh Karthik hit a last ball six off Soumya Sarkar to break Bangladesh’s heart.
