The third day of the first Test between India and South Africa was called off due to heavy rains in Cape Town.
Virat Kohli's men were looking to bowl South Africans out early and return in the game on the Day 3 of the first Test. However, heavy rains caused the game to be called off at PPC Newlands Cricket Ground.
To compensate for the loss of the entire day three, 98 overs will be bowled on the remaining two days of the test match. Heavy showers were forecast for Sunday and they arrived early on in the morning.
Talking about day two, the hosts reached 65/2 in their second innings at stumps after dismissing India for 209 on the second day of the first test at Cape Town.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya stood tall amid ruins with his all-round prowess but hosts South Africa were still very much in command with a current lead of 142 runs against India after an enthralling second day in the first Test at Newlands Cape Town.
Here are the updates and SCORECARD of India vs South Africa, 1st Test, Day 3:
#Play called off after inspection
# But despite the ongoing lack of play, the rain is a very welcome and long overdue sight for all in draught hit Cape Town!
# Getting slightly better here in Newlands as Team India make their way to the ground SAvIND
# The rain continues to be a pain in Cape Town as there is no play before lunch.
# Seems like the rains will eat at least one or two sessions of the Day 3. South Africa still in control but Pujara feels Pandya's heroic keeps India in the game. But I think the game is in South Africa's court right now and only hard-work left for India. If they do that efficiently, they can come back as South Africa is a pacer short after Steyn ruled out due to injury.
# Dale Steyn, who just returned to the side after nursing a shoulder injury, ruled out of the Freedom Series due to broken heel.
