New Delhi:

After a semi-final exit against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2019, the Indian team is all set to play a full bilateral series against West Indies. Ravi Shastri and the support staff has been given a 45-day extension and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already invited application for the vacant position. It is known that the likes of Mahela Jayawardene, Tom Moody, and Jonty Rhoades have applied for their respective interest role.

Former Indian cricketer Robin Singh also threw his hat in the ring for the high-profile head coach’s role. After applying for the position, he made a bold statement about Shastri and how the current Indian coach has fared under him in the knock-out stages of the tournaments, hosted by the ICC.

“Under the current coach, India has lost in the semi-finals of two successive ODI World Cups, and in the last four stage of the World Twenty20 championship as well,” the 55-year-old Singh was quoted as saying in Times Now.

Singh also talked about the importance of reading into the player’s thoughts and formulating tactics as per that. The veteran feels that it’s essential for a coach to put himself/herself in the player’s shoes in order to understand the game better.

“You got to transport yourself mentally into the game, put yourself in situations that the team and the players face, be a part of the moves, get into the players’ mind. You can do this, only if you understand the game technically,” he added.
