India’s ‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma, who had recently led Team India’s ODI side to a successful campaign in the Asia Cup 2018, is set to play for Mumbai in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018. However, Rohit will not lead the Mumbai team with Shreyas Iyer getting the nod for the captaincy.

Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Rohit Sharma would be playing for Mumbai in the knockout rounds.

“Yes, he will...we’ll pick the team on October 10. Rohit will play for us in one or two games. The team will be led by Shreyas Iyer, who captained Mumbai in their last two games in the league stage,” he said to TOI.

Rohit’s last matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy were in 2017 when he was making a comeback from a leg injury, however, he only managed to score just 4 and 16 in two outings.

The Mumbai star has played 23 List A games for the team while averaging 37 with the bat, with only a ton and five fifties to his account.

India’s five-match ODI against West Indies is scheduled to start from October 21 and with Rohit not in the team for the ongoing Test Series against the Windies, it would be handy for him to get some much-needed practice to get into the groove for the ODI series.

Mumbai play their next game against Bihar on October 14, and, will play the semi-finals on October 17 if they qualify.
