New Delhi:

Virat Kohli-led Team India on Monday took a 3-0 lead in the five-match ODI series against New Zealand when the team defeated the hosts in the third One Day International in Mount Maunganui. Virat Kohli also created history by becoming one of the most successful captains in the history of the game surpassing Mahendra Singh Dhoni and former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting. On the basis of winning percentage, Indian skipper Kohli became the second most successful captain of all time.

Under the captainship of Virat Kohli, Team India has secured a win in 47 matches out of 63 matches with a winning percentage of 76.61 per cent. Earlier, Australian star batsman Ricky Ponting was at number two spot with 76.14 winning percentage by clinching 165 out of 230 matches while MS Dhoni-led Team India won 110 out of 200 matches overall in T20s and ODIs combined. He has a winning percentage of 59.52 per cent.

In the list of most successful captains ever, West Indies' Clive Lloyd is at the top with 64 wins in 84 matches and a winning percentage of 77.71 per cent. At number four, South Africa's Hansie Cronje won 99 matches out of 138 matches with a winning percentage of 73.70 per cent while Australia's Michael Clarke is at number five with 50 wins in 74 matches.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has performed magnificently on the ongoing New Zealand tour where he scored 148 runs in three matches with 84.30 strike rate.

After conquering Australia, Virat Kohli's Indian cricket team has destroyed New Zealand in style. Rohit Sharma's 39th fifty, the skipper's 49th fifty and yet another clinical performance by the bowlers gave the Indian cricket team a thumping seven-wicket win in the third ODI at The Bay Oval against New Zealand on Monday. The win ensured an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series and it gave India their first series win in New Zealand since 2009.

In 2014, India was undone by some inspired performances from New Zealand's batsmen and bowlers as they were hammered 0-4. Five years later, New Zealand was at the receiving end of yet another display of clinical batting and bowling from a side that is on top in all departments.
