India maintained its unbeaten streak in bilateral Test series at home after winning the three match Test series against Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Kohli and brigade clinched the series 1-0 after drawing the third Test at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.

By winning the series against the Lankans, the Indian team equaled Australia's record for the  most consecutive Test series wins. Under Ponting's captaincy, the mighty Aussies won 9 Test series on the trot from 2005 to 2008.  Kohli and his team remained unbeaten in bilateral Test series all through 2017.

In the period between August 2017 to December 2017, India struck a purple patch winning a staggering out 21 of 30 Test matches.

Out of the nine Test series won on the trot, six came at home and three were won on overseas soil. India won two series against the West Indies in the Carribean and beat the Lankan in their own den. India ascended to the Number One position in the ICC rankings and have held on to the position ever since. 

The Indian team has jelled well under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, who has inspired the team with his stellar contributions with the willow and aggressive captaincy.  Kohli is having a golden run with the bat, registering six double hundred's since assuming the captaincy from MS Dhoni.

Virat Kohli also equalled Ricky Ponting's record of 31 wins in a calendar year with the win in the last match.The Kohli-led side will now aim to stretch their record when they land in South Africa later this month for a three-Test rubber against the Proteas, starting January 5 in Capetown.
