New Delhi:

If the Vizag ODI against West Indies was any indication of how effortlessly Virat Kohli breaks records, then the Pune ODI offers another opportunity for the Indian skipper to add to his burgeoning tally of world records.

With scores of 140 and 157*, Kohli needs one more century to not only complete a hat-trick, but also equal South African sensation AB de Villiers’ record of four consecutive centuries in ODIs in India.

Prior to his knock of 140 and 157*, Kohli had smashed 113 against New Zealand in Kanpur in October 2017. Incidentally, the knock in Kanpur had made him the fastest to get past 9000 runs in ODIs. De Villiers had achieved the feat in the 2010/2011 season. In the three ODI series in 2010, the South African right-hander blasted 114* and 102* in Gwalior and Ahmedabad.

He carried the form right to the World Cup and he responded with 107* against the West Indies in the encounter at Feroz Shah Kotla Delhi and blasted 134 against the Netherlands in Mohali.

Record-breaking machine

Virat Kohli broke plenty of records in the Vizag ODI against West Indies. In addition to becoming the fastest to 10,000 ODI runs beating Sachin Tendulkar’s mark, Kohli went past 1000 runs in the calendar year in just 11 innings at an average of close to 150.

Kohli also went past 4000 ODI runs at home in quick time and also became the second captain since Andrew Strauss to hit two 150+ scores. The Indian skipper also overtook Tendulkar’s tally of most runs against West Indies in ODIs. The crowd in Pune will be gearing up for yet another exhibition by Kohli.
