New Delhi:

Virender Sehwag, the former India cricket team opener, had announced in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack last year that he would take complete care of the education of the children of the CRPF soldiers who were martyred in Pulwama on February 14, 2019. Now, with the nation mourning the first anniversary of the deadly terror attack, Sehwag has come up with a post which will make 130 crore Indians proud and teary-eyed. On his official Twitter handle, Sehwag posted images of the children of the martyred soldiers in Pulwama having a good time playing cricket and studying in his Sehwag school in Jhajjar, Haryana.

In the tweet, he wrote, "Today marks one year since the terrible Pulwama attack on our brave jawans. Naman to all of them. In this pic are Batsman - Arpit Singh s/o Pulwama Shaheed Ram Vakeel & Bowler-Rahul Soreng s/o Pulwama Shaheed Vijay Soreng. Very privileged to have them study in my @SehwagSchool." Sehwag was not the only one who gave a tribute to the Pulwama martyrs. Gautam Gambhir, Sehwag's opening partner and current BJP MP from East Delhi, who was the most vocal on social media in taking action, also paid tribute to the CRPF jawans martyred.

On his Twitter handle, Gambhir wrote, "Let us all be brave enough to die the death of a martyr. The sound of bullets still echoes in our ears, the wounds still hurt like they are fresh. Salute to the supreme sacrifice of our brave hearts. Jai Hind #PulwamaAttack."

Before the start of the Ranchi game between India and Australia, there was a very special tribute which was led by MS Dhoni himself and it resulted in the toss getting delayed by three to four minutes. Before the toss, Dhoni handed out army-style caps to each player in the Indian cricket team. The official Twitter handle of the BCCI said the team will be sporting camouflage caps as mark of tribute to the loss of lives in Pulwama terror attack and the armed forces. This is also to encourage countrymen to donate to the National Defence Fund for taking care of the education of the dependents of the martyrs.

Deadliest Attack Since 2016

The Pulwama terror attack, in which over 40 CRPF soliders were killed, shook India. There was anger towards Pakistan and there was condolences pouring in for the soldiers and their families. Amidst all this, former India opener Virender Sehwag undertook a wonderful initiative which will gladden the hearts of 130 crore Indians. On his Twitter handle, Sehwag announced that he would sponsor the education for the children of the CRPF soldiers who were killed in his international school in Jhajjhar. Sehwag said, "Nothing we can do will be enough, but the least I can do is offer to take complete care of the education of the children of our brave CRPF jawans martyred in #Pulwama in my Sehwag International School @SehwagSchool , Jhajjar. Saubhagya hoga."
