With rumours of Indian cricketer MS Dhoni’s retirement, former Union minister Sanjay Paswan has claimed that the wicket-keeper batsman may join the saffron party after hanging his boots. The BJP leader claimed that there have been discussions on the issue for a long time but the final decision will only be taken after Dhoni’s retirement.
"On this issue, there has been a discussion for long, although this decision will be taken only after his retirement," Paswan had told news agency IANS. He further added: "Dhoni is my friend, he is a player of world fame and there have been discussions on bringing him into the party fold."
Although Dhoni never openly expressed his political views but a section of people believes that he is a supporter of the saffron ideology. Dhoni was visited by BJP chief Amit Shah as part of his "Sampark for Samarthan" program ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019.

Interestingly, elections are scheduled to be held in Dhoni's home state Jharkhand later this year and if the BJP can convince him to join the saffron brigade, it will have a huge bearing on the results since Dhoni is worshiped in his state.
While critics say Dhoni should call it a day, many believe he has a lot of cricket left in him. Even COA member Diana Edulji was in favour of Dhoni and said that he still has a lot of cricket left in him.
