Yasir Shah, the Pakistan legspinner, created history in the Abu Dhabi Test against New Zealand when he became the quickest to 200 wickets, achieving the record in just 33 Tests. Yasir broke Australian legspinner Clarrie Grimmett’s long-standing record of the fastest to 200 wickets which he achieved in 1936. However, earlier in the Abu Dhabi Test, there was a moment when Yasir was involved in a bizarre run-out. The method of his dismissal did not impress skipper Sarfraz Ahmed too much as Pakistan were looking to build a healthy lead against the Black Caps. The incident occurred in the 133rd over of the Pakistan innings with William Somervile bowling to Sarfraz.
The Pakistan skipper whipped a flatter delivery to deep midwicket and desperately called Yasir for the second run. While turning, Yasir slipped and lost his shoe as he hobbled across for the second. The throw was fired from the deep by Colin de Grandhomme and Somerville calmly whipped the bails off to catch Yasir well short of the crease. Seeing how the wicket was lost, Sarfraz was fuming and he shouted at Yasir to convey the message that he could have declined the second run.

Pakistan managed a 74-run lead but they were undone by the genius of Kane Williamson, who slammed his 19th Test century and his fifth in Asia. The New Zealand skipper’s brilliant knock, combined with a magnificent knock from Henry Nicholls have given New Zealand a chance to win a series in Asia after a long time. The unbeaten 212-run stand for the fourth wicket has given New Zealand a 198-run lead and they will be looking to bowl Pakistan out and seal a famous win on the final day.

The series is currently tied 1-1, with New Zealand winning the Abu Dhabi Test by four runs. Pakistan bounced back in style with a brilliant innings win in Dubai, with Yasir picking up 14 wickets in the match, the joint-best bowling figures for Pakistan in Test cricket. The legspinner has made all the right noises with the ball, but with the bat, his carelessness might have proven to be costly for Pakistan as they look to salvage this series.
