New Delhi:

Yuvraj Singh, India's greatest match-winner who recently announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket, showed that class is permanent as he put in a brilliant display in the Global T20 League competition which thrilled the crowd present for the clash in Brampton. Playing for the Toronto Nationals, Yuvraj struck some brilliant hits and was well assisted by a knock of 43 from 24 balls by former India player Manpreet Gony as their team Toronto Nationals won a high-scoring thriller against Edmonton Royals by two wickets in the Global T20 clash at the CAA Centre on Saturday.

In a match which was reduced to 19 overs due to rain, Toronto Nationals chose to field against Edmonton Royals. Faf du Plessis, the Edmonton skipper, smashed three sixes in his knock of 24 but the innings was given great impetus by Ben Cutting's knock of 43 off 24 balls which included one four and four sixes and Shadab Khan's 36 off 17 balls. The 65-run stand between Cutting and Shadab helped Edmonton Royals reach 191/6. In response, Toronto Nationals started poorly as they lost two quick wickets but Heinrich Klassen and Yuvraj Singh steadied the ship with a 56-run stand.

Yuvraj looked in brilliant touch right from the start as he creamed a boundary off Safyaan Sharif to get off the mark in style. The left-hander thrilled the audience when he straight drove Jimmy Neesham to the boundary straight down the ground and he raised the tempo with a brilliant six down the ground off Shadab. The Pakistan legspinner bore the brunt of Yuvraj' onslaught as he was hit for a four and a six in the same over while he greeted Cutting with a flicked six over deep midwicket. However, his innings ended on 35 off 21 balls when he chipped a full ball back to the bowler.

However, Gony changed the course of the game when he smashed three fours and a six in Neesham's over and two sixes in Kyle Phillip's over. Despite scoring no fifties and with a required rate of over 10, Toronto Nationals still won the game by two wickets with Gony being awarded the Man of the Match. However, Yuvraj's knock made amends for his poor show in the first match where he struggled to make 14 off 27 balls and he walked off despite not been dismissed. With this knock, fans in Brampton saw a glimpse of India's ultimate match-winner doing what he does best, which is winning matches.
