Yuzvendra Chahal becomes the first player of the current Indian squad to break the silence on the much-talked subject – Should India boycotts the encounter against Pakistan in the forthcoming World Cup? While the COA is expected to discuss the subject during the Special General Meeting (SGM) with the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) members on Friday, opinions are divided among the general public.
The subject of cutting all ties with Pakistan and boycotting the country on every front came into being after as many as 40 CRPF jawans were killed in the ghastly terror strike that took place in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on February 14.
While Harbhajan Singh, Mohammad Azharuddin, and VVS Laxman have called for the Pakistan match to be boycotted, Chahal has put the ball in BCCI's court, suggesting he and the team will do as per the demanded by the board.
Speaking to ANI, the wrist spinner who has been around for a while now and is almost certain to feature in the World Cup squad said, "It's not in our hands. If BCCI says, we will play. If they say no then we won't.”
He was also asked about what he feels about the whole scenario on the personal grounds, he went on saying that India should act now and if we don’t, nothing will change.
"If we don't take action, nothing will change. This is high time. We should take firm action. There are people in Pakistan who are not at fault but those who are behind the attack should be punished,” the 28-year-old added.
Meanwhile, the talks have been going around that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in talks with other board such as Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). If at all, the two or three boards agree and stand on BCCI’s side, the result will likely go against Pakistan.
However, this remains to be seen how BCCI actually reacts to this situation as a lot of pressure already surrounds them.
