New Delhi:

Portuguese Football great Cristiano Ronaldo, the star of Juventus FC, has denied the rape allegations made against him by an American woman and reported by a German publication. His lawyer said that he would seek legal redress for his client from the magazine. A German news magazine had reported that Ronaldo had raped a woman in Las Vegas in 2009. He also paid the woman a hefty sum to the tune of $375,000 to never speak about that night. Ronaldo was accused of rape one-and-a-half years ago, but has maintained his innocence since.

Now, after nine long years, the woman has publicly spoken about what transpired in the Las Vegas hotel room in 2009. The woman’s lawyer is now questioning the validity of the out-of-court settlement.

Denying the allegations made against him, Cristiano Ronaldo said that the sex was consensual.

Ronaldo’s lawyer Christian Schertz said in a statement, as reported by a news agency, the report was “an inadmissible reporting of suspicions in the area of privacy”, and that he would seek legal redress for his client from the magazine. The agency representing Ronaldo, however, didn’t divulge on the claims made by the newspaper report.

Schertz said he would seek compensation from the magazine for “moral damages in an amount corresponding to the gravity of the infringement, which is probably one of the most serious violations of personal rights in recent years.”

In response, the magazine claims they approached Ronaldo and his team but were not provided with a response. “We sent written questions, to which there were no answers. Nobody sued us in connection with earlier Ronaldo reports,” said the Editor-in-Chief of the German publication.
