Indian women thrash Pakistan 4-0 in AFC Championship Qualifiers

India – Pakistan clash is not only limited to Asia Cup 2018 at the Dubai International Stadium in UAE today (September 19) as India Under-16 women’s team completed an all-round performance by thrashing Pakistan U-16 women’s team by 4-0 in the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers match. Indian team is now leading the group B in the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers campaign.

Avika Singh started off the rout with a brilliant tap-in from a lovely ball in by Sunita in the 22-minute mark to hand India U-16 team the lead, before Ayesha in the 41st minute scored an own goal to double the lead for India.

"We expected to score a few more goals today but we are satisfied with the result and look forward our next match now," said Avika Singh after the match.

India held the possession beautifully as at one point of time all the 21 players apart from the Indian goalkeeper Manisha were playing in Pakistan’s half.

"The opponent team played a defensive game today, and we pressed them to get good result in the end," said Shilky Devi.

Sunita Mundi opened the floodgates after the stocky striker got her name of the scoresheet to triple India’s lead. Soon after Sunita Mundi’s goal, Shilky Devi joined the party as she scored the fourth and final goal of the game in the 88th minute mark.  

Pakistan were completely dominated by their Indian counterparts and the difference in the quality was visible on the pitch.

The AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship is set to be held in Thailand in 2019 as the main event by the Asian Football Confederation in a bid to develop football at the grassroot level and will serve as a ticket for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.  

The Indian women’s U-16 team have been in brilliant form as they defeated Hong Kong by 6-1 in the opening game following Lynda Kom’s sensational hat-trick. Shilky Devi scored a brace and Sunita Munda got one.

Earlier, coach Firmin D’ Souza had brilliantly guided the team to fabulous win in the SAFF U-15 Championship, which was held in Bhutan.
