India's campaign at the FIFA under 17 World Cup started on a losing note as the hosts were handed a 3-0 defeat by USA in their opening group fixture at the Jawahar LAL Nehru Stadium at Delhi on Friday.
The USA was in attack mode from the very start and broke the Indian deadlock in the 30th minute when Josh Sargent scored from a penalty kick to give them the lead.
India will take on Columbia in their second game at JLN stadium in New Delhi on October 9.
The match is being dubbed as one of the biggest matches in Indian football history as for the very first time an Indian team, senior or junior is making its debut at a major international event.

The hosts will start as underdogs against US, who have participated in 15 of the 16 editions of FIFA U-17 World Cup.Â
