Google dedicates its doodle to FIFA Women's World Cup 2019

Google on Friday dedicated its doodle to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019. Created around teams participating in the mega football event, the Google doodle marked the commencement of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on June 7 in France.

“Each doodle will capture the local excitement of the world cup competition as well as what soccer means to the guest artists personally,” description of the Google doodle read.

As many as 24 countries will battle it out over the next month in the eighth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, most recently won by the US in 2015. Led by Phil Neville’ England is tipped as the tournament favourite along with the US.

The opening match of the Women’s World Cup 2019 will be played between France and South Korea in Paris at 8:00 local time. Defending champions US, who are in Group F, will play their first encounter against the Thailand.

The 16-phase knockout round will begin from Saturday, June 22, while the final match of the mega tournament will be played on Sunday, July 7. On Saturday, July 6, the match for the third place will be held on  the eve of the finals.
