FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017: Ghana trounce India 4-0 in final group match

New Delhi:

Ghana on Thursday crushed India's FIFA Under-17 World Cup campaign on Thursday and trounced the cults by 4-0 in the final group match played at JLN Stadium, Delhi.

The Indian players started the game on a very energetic note and kept the two-time U-17 World Cup Champions at the bay until the last few minutes of the first half.

In the last minutes of the first half, Ghana skipper Eric Aiyah succeeded in breaching Indian defence and scored the first goal of the match.

Aiyah didn't stop there and completed his brace as soon as the second half started. Captain Eric Ayiah scored twice—in the 43rd and 52nd minutes.

Apart from the skipper, second-half substitutes Richard Danso (86th) and Emmanuel Toku (87th) struck once each to broke the hearts of 52,614 home supporters at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

With Colombia beating the USA 3-1 in the other Group A game in Mumbai today, Ghana topped the group. Colombia also qualified in the round of 16 as they finished second. The USA had to be content with the third place.

The rank outsiders India might have ended their maiden FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign in pain and agony but the cults have not done too bad against the world's best.

The young Indians played their hearts out in the entire tournament but their inexperience played its role against them.

Vastly superior in physique, speed and skill, the Ghanaians totally dominated the match as far as both possession and shots were concerned.

Ghana also needed a win to be sure of a top-two finish in the group and hence an automatic knock-out berth, prompting them to keep the Indian citadel under seize throughout the match.
