Pep Guardiola's Mother Dies From Coronavirus At Age Of 82, Confirm Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's mother has died after contracting the novel coronavirus. The club announced her death in a tweet saying: "The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep's mother Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting coronavirus. She was 82 years old."

"Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends."

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said in a post on Twitter: "Our prayers and heartfelt sympathies are with Pep and his family at this overwhelmingly sad time. He and they have the love and support of the entire City family."

Guardiola (49) had last month donated €1m (£918,000 at the time) to aid the fight against coronavirus in Spain. Guardiola, who has also coached Barcelona and Bayern Munich and spent most of his playing career with Barca.

Manchester United also sent their condolences on Twitter, "Everyone at Manchester United is saddened to hear this terrible news. We send our heartfelt condolences to Pep and his family. #ACityUnited."

Liverpool FC posted: "Deepest condolences from everybody at Liverpool FC. Our thoughts are with Pep and his family at this time." (With Agency Inputs)
