In a shocking turn of events, Zinedine Zidane on Wednesday announced his resignation from the post of Real Madrid manager, just days after winning the club's third consecutive UEFA Champions League title.
In a surprise press conference, Zidane announced his resignation. "The team needs to continue winning and needs a change," he said.
"I'm not going to coach next season. I'm not looking for another team.â€
The Frenchman was appointed in January 2016 in what was his first ever senior managerial role, but has enjoyed massive success in the subsequent two-and-a-half years.
Zidane became the first manager to win the Champions League three times in a row, while also landing a La Liga title as well as five more major trophies for the Los Blancos.
President Florentino Perez has admitted the club were not prepared for this decision and do not have clear idea yet who will succeed him and confirmed that Zidane came to see him on Wednesday to break the "shocking" news to him.
