New Delhi:

West Indies opt to bowl vs Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 encounter in Trent Bridge. Sheldon Cottrell got the wicket of Imam ul Haq but Andre Russell was the star with two big wickets. Pakistan never recovered from the hostile pace and short bowling from the West Indies pacers as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Wahab Riaz struck some lusty blows and Pakistan crossed 100 but Oshane Thomas was the star, taking 4/27 as Pakistan were bowled out for their second-lowest score in the World Cup. In response, Shai Hope and Darren Bravo fell cheaply but Chris Gayle blasted his 52nd fifty. Nicholas Pooran struck some big hits and West Indies registered a thumping seven-wicket win against Pakistan. (SCORECARD)

18:34 hrs IST: Nicholas Pooran blasts a six off Wahab Riaz's short ball and West Indies have registered a thumping seven-wicket win against Pakistan. This is now their 10th loss in 11 games for Pakistan and their slump is really a sign of concern.

18:28 hrs IST: Shimron Hetmyer survives a run-out chance as Fakhar Zaman fails to score a direct hit. Hasan Ali bowls a tight over and after 13 overs, West Indies are 96/3.

18:24 hrs IST: Brilliant stuff from Nicholas Pooran. The fourth ball is short and Pooran steers it to third man while the fifth ball is mauled over long on for a big six. West Indies are 91/3 after 12 overs.

18:18 hrs IST: WICKET and FIFTY! Mohammad Amir takes his third wicket. Short ball outside off, Gayle looks to muscle the pull shot and gets a top edge that is taken at shortish third man. Ends a fine knock from Gayle. After 10.5 overs, West Indies are 77/3.

18:13 hrs IST: After the maiden over, Riaz is taken apart by Chris Gayle. The first ball is lofted down the ground for a big six, then the second ball is clobbered to deep extra cover while the third ball is muscled away to deep midwicket. 15 runs in the over and after 10 overs, West Indies are 71/2.

18:08 hrs IST: Nicholas Pooran counters the short ball well. Amir bangs it short outside off and the batsman hops and flatbats it past midwicket for a boundary. After nine overs, West Indies are 56/2 and in a comfortable position.

18:04 hrs IST: MAIDEN! Superb start for Wahab Riaz. His first official ODI after two years. He starts off with a maiden over. After eight overs, West Indies are 48/2.

17:58 hrs IST: WICKET! Pakistan fight and it is Amir keeping them in the hunt. Back of a length ball and it rears off the deck, Darren Bravo stabs at it and the edge is taken by Babar Azam at slip. After 6.2 overs, West Indies are 46/2.

17:55 hrs IST: Gayle continues to bat confidently. Short ball from Hasan Ali and he cuts it to the third man fence while on the last ball, Gayle muscles the pull shot to the deep midwicket fence. After six overs, West Indies are 46/1.

17:50 hrs IST: Darren Bravo starts cautiously and after five overs, West Indies are 38/1.

17:48 hrs IST: WICKET! The short ball continues to reap dividents. After the first ball is smashed through extra cover for a boundary, Amir responds with a short ball and Hope can only punch it to Mohammad Hafeez at mid off. After 4.3 overs, West Indies are 36/1.

17:44 hrs IST: Brilliant stuff from Gayle. He clobbers Hasan Ali for two big sixes, one over long on and one straight down the ground. This could be one of the many sixes the Universe Boss hits in the tournament. After four overs, West Indies are 32/0. 16 runs in the over.

17:40 hrs IST: Shai Hope counters the short ball well but he does not time it well. West Indies are making good progress and after three overs, they are 16/0.

17:36 hrs IST: Chris Gayle gets going in a streaky fashion. A short ball from Hasan Ali and Gayle top-edges the pull to fine leg and he edges the next ball to the third man boundary. Gayle survives an LBW shout but the ball was pitching outside the leg stump. After two overs, West Indies are 12/0.

17:31 hrs IST: Good start from Mohammad Amir. Full in length and in the right channels, both Gayle and Shai Hope negotiate him well. West Indies are 2/0 after the first over.

17:25 hrs IST: The Pakistan players are out in the middle. Can they withstand the Gayle storm? Looking at the total, the only consolation for them could be getting rid of Gayle cheaply.

17:09 hrs IST: Oshane Thomas after his spell of 4/27: Andre Russell started it and it was working so I just followed him. We mixed it up, pitched it up, went short and it worked. I have faith in the batters and they have been great. A great game and we executed our plans well. And a big thumbs up to Andre Russell, he started it.

16:59 hrs IST: WICKET! Brilliant stuff from Oshane Thomas as he keeps it full and straight, Wahab attempts the slog and he is cleaned up. Pakistan are all out for 105, their second lowest total in World Cups. This has been an embarrasing sight.

16:53 hrs IST: Yes they can get to 100, thanks to Wahab Riaz. He mauls a six over deep midwicket, slices a boundary to deep point and then blasts a six in the final ball. Jason Holder concedes 16 runs and Pakistan are 103/9 in 21 overs.

16:49 hrs IST: Pakistan survive the Thomas over and after 20 overs, Pakistan are 86/9. Can they get to 100?

16:45 hrs IST: WICKET! Another short ball and Mohammad Hafeez falls. They have not been able to counter the short ball at all. Oshane bangs it short and Hafeez top edges the pull, Cottrell runs in and takes the catch at fine leg. After 19.3 overs, Pakistan are 83/9.

16:40 hrs IST: WICKET! Another one falls. This is embarrasing for the Pakistan cricket team and their supporters. Hasan Ali awkwardly pulls a short ball from Jason Holder and he holes out to mid-off. After 18.3 overs, Pakistan are 81/8.

16:37 hrs IST: Oshane Thomas bowls a short ball and Hasan Ali awkwardly fends it to deep backward square leg and Pakistan are 80/7 after 18 overs.

16:34 hrs IST: WICKETS! Brilliant stuff from West Indies and Pakistan are in real trouble. Holder bangs the ball short and Imad gloves it to first slip. In the next over bowled by Oshane Thomas, Shadab Khan is trapped LBW for a golden duck and after 17.3 overs, Pakistan are 78/7.

16:28 hrs IST: WICKET! Superb review from West Indies. Short ball from Jason Holder on leg stump, Sarfaraz looks to work it to the leg side but gets an edge that is not spotted by the umpire. West Indies opt for the review and there is a spike on Real-Time Snicko. In 16.1 overs, Pakistan are 77/5

16:25 hrs IST: Oshane Thomas recovers after being hit for two boundaries in the previous over. Good, tight bowling and Pakistan are 75/4 after 16 overs.

16:17 hrs IST: Only two runs in the 15th over bowled by Carlos Brathwaite. He bowls slower bouncers and Pakistan are 72/4 in 15 overs.

16:15 hrs IST: Mohammad Hafeez blasts two boundaries off Oshane Thomas, one to deep midwicket and the other to the offside. Pakistan are 70/4 after 14 overs.

16:10 hrs IST: WICKET! Massive one for the West Indies. Back of a length ball outside off, it zips through and Babar Azam throws his hands at it, the ball takes the outside edge and Shai Hope dives to his right to take a brilliant catch. After 13.2 overs, Pakistan are 62/4.

16:05 hrs IST: Oshane Thomas bowls his first over in the World Cup and Babar Azam blasts a boundary to deep midwicket. After 12 overs, Pakistan are 58/3.

15:58 hrs IST: DROPPED! Babar Azam is dropped at point off Carlos Brathwaite. Shimron Hetmyer is the culprit. Sarfaraz Ahmed gets going with a boundary to fine leg. Pakstan need runs. After 11 overs, Pakistan are 50/3.

15:53 hrs IST: WICKET MAIDEN! Awesome bowling from Andre Russell and he gets his second wicket. Short of a length ball outside off, 91 mph and it climbs from the deck, Haris Sohail looks to fend at it and the edge is taken. Pakistan are 45/3 after 10 overs.

15:49 hrs IST: Carlos Brathwaite follows Andre Russell's blueprint and bowls short. Pakistan are 45/2 after nine overs.

15:48 hrs IST: Andre Russell is bowling with some serious pace and Babar Azam is troubled by the short ball. After eight overs, Pakistan are 42/2.

15:42 hrs IST: After five good balls from Cottrell, Haris Sohail gets going with a boundary through deep backward point. Pakistan are 40/2 after seven overs.

15:36 hrs IST: WICKET! Oh dear, unfortunate way for Zaman to go. Andre Russell bangs the short ball and Zaman goes for the pull, it is too quick and he cannot connect. The ball hits the stumps and rolls back onto the stumps. Pakistan are 35/2 after six overs.

15:32 hrs IST: Cottrell bowls a full toss outside off and Babar Azam smashes the ball to the deep extra cover fence. Cottrell bounces back and then calmly rotates the strike. After five overs, Pakistan are 33/1.

15:27 hrs IST: Poor bowling from Jason Holder. Fakhar Zaman gets a boundary by smashing the drive past cover and he clips a full to deep mid wicket for three runs. Babar Azam gets going with a flick shot for three runs. After four overs, Pakistan are 27/1.

15:23 hrs IST: Fakhar Zaman lifts Sheldon Cottrell over cover for a boundary but Imam-ul-Haq gets strangled down the leg side with a short ball. Poor way for Imam-ul-Haq to go and he falls for 2. Pakistan 17/1 after three overs.

15:17 hrs IST: Fakhar Zaman is in great form. He punches Jason Holder down to long off for three runs and then whips a full ball to deep midwicket for the first six of the contest. Pakistan are 11/0 after two overs.

15:12 hrs IST: Superb over from Sheldon Cottrell. Apart from the one wide, he bowls six perfect balls to Imam-ul-Haq. Some swing on offer. After the first over, Pakistan are 1/0.

15:05 hrs IST: Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq are all set to open the batting. For the West Indies, Kemar Roach might open the bowling. However, one might have to say a silent prayer for the bowlers as this is as flat as the National Highways of England.

14:58 hrs IST: The match is just about to begin but before that there is the national anthems of both the teams. In fact, just one. Rally round the West Indies is a song created for the side as there is no nation called West Indies. For Pakistan, it is the Quami Taranah.

14:49 hrs IST: Here are the playing XIs of both Pakistan and West Indies. No Asif Ali in the Pakistan side.

Pakistan (Playing XI): Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfaraz Ahmed(w/c), Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir

West Indies (Playing XI): Chris Gayle, Shai Hope(w), Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Jason Holder(c), Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas

14:40 hrs IST: West Indies have chosen to bowl against Pakistan. Evin Lewis and Shannon Gabriel are not fit while Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz are in the Pakistan side.

14:32 hrs IST: The wicket, as expected, is an absolute shirtfront. Plenty of runs on offer and it is a bat first wicket. Can West Indies notch up the first 500 in ODIs?

14:29 hrs IST: Will the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle, bow out of what could be his final appearance in World Cups on a high? Can he start on a positive note? The toss is just minutes away now.

14:23 hrs IST: The Pakistan cricket team have announced their 12-man squad. Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hasnain and Shaheen Afridi are out of this game. For West Indies, Shannon Gabriel is potentially out as he is not 100 percent.

14:20 hrs IST: Trent Bridge is all set to welcome 17000 people for this match, predominantly from Pakistan. However, will their fans be prepared for the worst?

14:10 hrs IST: If West Indies have power in their batting, Pakistan have some flair. There is Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam and the veteran, the professor, Mohammad Hafeez.

14:05 hrs IST: What are the X-factors for the West Indies? They are Chris Gayle and Andre Russell. Gayle, in the recent series against England, blasted 39 sixes while Andre Russell's strike-rate has been close to 150. For Pakistan, Babar Azam has been the chief run-getter especially against the West Indies.

13:59 hrs IST: A warm welcome to the second match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. This features the 1992 Champions, Pakistan, taking on the 1975 and 1979 champions West Indies in Trent Bridge. Pakistan have not enjoyed a good run heading into the World Cup, losing nine out of 10 games.
