New Delhi:

Pakistani skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed on Saturday responded to the online abuse and harassment of him following his team’s defeat against arch-rivals India in their World Cup 2019 encounter. Reacting to his criticism and trolling on social media for yawning during India game, the Pakistani skipper said, "Yawning is a normal thing to do, I didn't commit a sin. If people made money out of me yawning, that's a good thing."

In a pre-match presser on Saturday, Sarfaraz called for an end to abusing, saying that people sitting outside can’t understand what the Pakistani players were going through.

“Anybody can say anything to us on social media. It is okay if you talk about our cricket but to abuse us is something which nobody would appreciate…. We are going through a phase which people sitting outside can’t even imagine,” he said.

In response to a question about the criticism of the Pakistani team’s performance in the ongoing World Cup and specially against India by former cricketers, Sarfaraz said that they have become “gods on TV screens”.

“What can I say to them. If I reply, they would bash me more. Some of them don’t even consider us cricketers, they have become Gods on TV screens,” Sarfraz said.

The wicket-keeper batsman said that they will play their best against during Sunday’s game against South Africa, adding that the Pakistani team still have a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.

“We are still alive in the tournament have a (mathematical) chance of qualifying. We are focused on our game on Sunday and God willing we will play our best cricket and win the game,” he added.
