IPL 2016: Has MS Dhoni lost its charm?

From last two years nothing is going well for Indian’s best captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It seems the player from Jharkhand has lost its midas touch. Earlier, everything he touched turned to gold from 2007 World T20 to Champions Trophy to 2011 World Cup.

He even trounced the heights in Tests which no Indian skipper had ever thought off. He has every ICC trophy in his casket. Not only Tests and ODIs, he lead the Chennai Super Kings to lift the most cash-rich Indian Premier League two times.

The bad omen for Captain Cool started when the team lost badly in Australia just before the World Cup 2015. In World Cup 2015, India lost to host Australia in semis by a huge margin. In IPL 2015, Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings lost in the finals to Mumbai Indians. India was even trolled by Bangladesh in three ODIs and lost the series.

After the Bangladesh series lost, many criticised the way Dhoni-led the side. Then it was the turn of South Africans to humiliate MS and Co in India. First they whitewashed the T20 series and then dominated the ODI series. Under Test skipper Virat Kohli, India won the Test series and saved some pride.

It was a fresh life for MS, when the team whitewashed Australia in T20 series for the first time in 100 years. India dominated the Asia cup winning all the matches including the finals against Bangladesh. It was T20 extravaganza in India as the World T20 was going to start. India were hot favourites before the start but struggled against New Zealand in the first match. India reached the semis crawling in the group stages and lost badly to West Indies.

In the India premier league 2016, Dhoni-led the new team Rising Pune Supergiants. The team won the first match convincingly but lost the other four matches badly. It was first time Dhoni lost four matches on the trot in IPL. There are lot of questions cropping up after Pune lost some close matches.

A billion dollar question is surrounding the cricket fraternity, has MS Dhoni lost the charm or capability to lead the Indian side? Is it the right time for BCCI to move on with someone else?
