Shubman Gill’s brilliant, unbeaten 65 off 49 balls helped Kolkata Knight Riders stay afloat in the race for the playoffs by winning against Kings XI Punjab by seven wickets in Mohali. On his home ground but playing for a different franchise, Shubman stole the show with some attacking cricket and took the Kings XI Punjab bowlers to the cleaners. Backed by Chris Lynn’s 46 and a cameo from Dinesh Karthik, Kolkata Knight Riders ensured that their chances of securing the fourth and final playoff spot remained alive. However, apart from Shubman, there was someone else who stole the show and it was the youngster’s dad.
When the winning runs were hit for Kolkata Knight Riders, Shubman’s father, Lakhwinder Singh stole the show by breaking into wild bhangra and cheering his son. Speaking after the end of the match, Shubman interviewed his father and mother and asked whether his family was happy with his knock. To this, Lakhwinder replied, “I am very happy that you did well in your home ground. I did some wild celebrations. I did the Bhangra after the win. I was slightly nervous but was confident as I knew you would do well in your home ground.â€

Shubman’s brother Keart Gill asked whether he saw his father’s reaction when he reached a fifty, the youngster replied No and went on to say that he did not think about this situation. “There was pressure but when I come to the ground I do not focus on things like how to get runs in these particular situations,†Shubman said.
Having won the Man of the Match for his knock, the youngster said, “It feels great, my first Man of the Match at my home ground. Can't get better than this. It was important to build pa artnership. I was striking it at 80-100 but the run-rate was still going around 9-10, so that's when I decided I had to stay in there. Even some relatives from my village came to watch so it's great to play in front of everyone.â€
