PV Sindhu gets a rousing welcome in Vijayawada

After enjoying a grand welcome in Hyderabad on Monday, PV Sindhu and her coach Pullela Gopichand attended a victory rally in Vijayawada, where the celebrations for the ace shuttler's Olympic silver medal continued on Tuesday.

Amid the Sindhu Tug-of-War, Andhra Pradesh left no stone unturned to make Tuesday’s show bigger and better. The state claims that no less than one lakh people are participating in the victory rally, which was taken out from the Vijayawada airport to Indira Gandhi Stadium. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was also present at the Indira Gandhi Stadium to greet Sindhu.

PV Sindhu is being claimed by both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as their own, but the Olympic silver medallist’s mentor Pullela Gopichand on Monday said that “she belongs” to India.

When a reporter sought Sindhu’s views on the bragging rights, Gopichand jumped in to try and put an end to the regional controversy by simply stating, “Well, I can only say she (Sindhu) belongs to India.”

Gopichand said it’s great that various governments are praising and supporting her. “We should celebrate the fact that all of them (states) want to be part of the celebration and support us.”
