It’s been first three days in 31st Rio Olympics 2016, but India is still searching for its first medal. The dismissal performance of Indians continued on Day 3, after they lost their both men and women hockey matches. Shooter Abhinav Bindra missed the bronze by whisker, archer Laxmirani Majhi lost to Alexandra Longova of Slovakia and swimmers failed to qualify for semi-finals.
While, India wait to open its account in 31st Games, many things happened for them first time in Olympics history. Let’s have a look.
Biggest Contingent Ever: For the first time India scored a team century, sending 118 strong contingent to the Rio Olympics. In 2012 London, the strength was 83.
Dipa Karmakar: The gymnast Dipa Karmakar became the first Indian to qualify for Olympics in 52 years. Not only she qualified but reached the finals of individual vault. Only time will tell if she can rewrite history by winning a medal for India.
India food: For the first time Indian food is available in the village. Young Indian chef Ishan Bahukhandi has set up an Indian kitchen for the athletes.
Women Hockey Team: Indian women hockey team qualified for the games after a long gap of 36 years. In their first match, they bounced back to hold Japan 2-2 but lost their second against Great Britain 0-3.
Dutee Chand: The sprinter from Odisha became the first Indian in 36 years to qualify for 100 mts race in Olympics. She fought many adversities and controversies to reach the top spot.
Golf: Golf is back in the games after a gap of 112 years and India will show its presence in it. The men will be represented by Anirban Lahiri and SSP Chawrasia, teen sensation Aditi Ashok in women.
