New Delhi:

All eyes will be on shuttler PV Sindhu, who will be taking on World Number-3 Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the semi-finals in the next few hours. After Sakshi Malik's stupendous performance that earned her bronze medal and India's first medal so far at Rio Olympics, expectations of Indians have risen sharply as they cheer and pray for the girl from Hyderabad.

World number 10 Sindhu, who defeated world number 2 Wang Yihan of China, will face the Japanese opponent ranked number 3. Twice bronze medallist at world championship, Sindhu is just a win away from another medal. If she conquers Okuhara, she shall be in the reckoning for the gold medal.

Who is PV Sindhu?

The girl from Hyderabad became the first ever Indian women's singles player to win a medal at the World Championships. In 2014 Asian and Commonwealth Games, she won bronze medals in team events. This is Sindhu's first appearance at Olympics.

In January, Sindhu won the Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold women’s singles title after beating Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour in the finals. Finishing within top-16 among women's singles players she qualified for Rio Games.
