Sania is one among the highest-paid and high-profile athletes in the country. Sania has represented India in 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Games but still Olympic medal eludes from her. She is all set to compete at the upcoming Olympic Games in Brazil. Sania will team up with Prarthana Thombare in the women’s doubles and with Rohan Bopanna in mixed doubles in the Games.

Wimbledon girl's doubles title was the turning point of Sania Mirza's tennis carrier. Sania became the second Indian girl after Nirupama vaidyanathan to play in the Grand Slam tournament at the Australian open. It was after 51 years that an Indian girl figured in the final of a Grand Slam, the last being Rita Dabur, who had finished runner-up in the singles event in 1952. With Martina Hingis, Sania Mirza is currently ranked No. 1 in the women's doubles rankings.

Sania Mirza was announced as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia. She is the first South Asian Woman to be appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador in the organization's history.
