It was a ‘golden Friday’ for India at the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships as four of its athletes won yellow medals on the second day of the competition in Bhubaneswar.
Consolidating the lead of host country, Mohammad Anas and Nirmala Sheoran grabbed Gold medals in the men’s and women’s 400-metre events at Kalinga Stadium. Rajiv Arokia and Jisna Mathew added a silver and a bronze in men's and women's 400m respectively.
"I knew I could win today but the rain and delay in the race led to slow timing. We have been waiting for long after warm up and it affected the timing. I am very happy to have done the country proud. Now my target is World Championships," PTI quoted Sheoran as saying after the win.
Chitra PU and Ajay Kumar have also finished first in the 1500 metre to win the shining Yellow medal each. They have also qualified for the World Championships in scheduled to be held in August this year.
There were expectations of one more gold from Tejinder Pal in the shot put event but he missed by a narrow margin to settle with a Silver.
India have added 4 golds on Friday and their tally on day 2 reached to 14 medals with six gold, two silver and six bronze. China are a distant second with two gold and two silver.
