Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal lost to Chinese Sun Yu in the women's singles quarterfinals at the Australian Open on Friday. Sun Yu overcame Saina in a well fought three game contest sealing the match 21-17, 10-21, 21-17 to secure a berth in the semifinals.
Saina didn't start the match too well losing the opening game but the Rio Bronze medalist came back strongly to level the match winning the second game with ease. Sun Yu raised the level and tempo of the game in the deciding third game to clinch the encounter.
Earlier, Rio Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu crashed out of the tournament suffering a 21-10, 20-22, 16-21 to World No.1 Tzu Ying. In men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth defeated compatriot Sai Praneeth 25-23, 21-17.
