Rio Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu was beaten by Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying in a gripping three games encounter in the quarter-finals of the women's singles on Thursday. PVSindhu lost to the World number one Tai Tzu Ying 10-21, 22-20 and 21-16.

Sindhu produced a dominating performance winning the first game to seal it 21-10 but Tzu Ying came back strongly to edge past the Indian shuttler in the second game. Tai Tzu Ying continued to dominate Sindhu in the deciding game to seal the match.

Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth beat B Sai Praneeth in the last eight of the tournament to book a semifinal berth. Saina Nehwal is scheduled to play her quarterfinals later on Friday.
