A cash rewards of Rs 10 lakh for P V Sindhu and Rs 5 lakh for Saina Nehwal was announced by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) on Sunday in view of their medal winning performances in the World Championships that concluded in Glasgow.
For the first time in the history of India that it has secured two medals at the prestigious event.
PV Sindhu secured Silver after neck-to-neck fight with Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the final.
On the other hand, Nehwal had also to the Japanese in the semifinals on Saturday to settle for a bronze.
“I would like to congratulate both the girls for their great performance. It has been a great journey and I am sure the performance of the players will only get better from here,” BAI president Himanta Biswa Sarma said while congratulating the players for their exceptional performance in the tournament.
