World No. 2 Akane Yamaguchi defeated beat Rio Olympics Silver medalist PV Sindhu 15-21, 21-12 and 21-19 to win the women's singles title clash of the 2017 BWF World Super Series final played at Dubai on Sunday.Â
Sindhu started off the match in an aggressive manner and took a sizeable 11-8 lead at the end of the first game. Sindhu became all dominating with her attacking game and clinched the opening game 21-15.Yamaguchi staged a strong comeback in the second game and leveled the match one game apiece. Yamaguchi then came on her own and clinched the third and decisive game to become the women's singles champion.
The Indian ace shuttler had beaten China's Chen Yufei 21-15, 21-18 to secure a place in the finals. She thereby became the second Indian shuttler to reach the final of BWF Superseries Finals after Saina Nehwal did in 2011.
PV Sindhu topped her group by winning all games against Hen Bingjiao, Sayaka Sato and Akane Yamaguchi. Sindhu finished off a stellar season on a high by lifting the coveted title. Sindhu had earlier won the Indian and Korean Open title besides winning a silver at the World Championship. She also ended up as the runner-up in the Hong Kong Open.
