Dutee Chand had endured a torrid couple of months after she came out and stated that she was in a same-sex relationship. From gaining acceptance in some quarters to getting criticism from conservative sections of society, Dutee had to endure some tough times. However, with the passage of time, Dutee's same-sex relationship has gotten acceptance. One Trinamool Congress MP has called her a high-flier, meaning a person who is or has the potential to be very successful. Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan took to her official Twitter handle to announce that she considered Dutee as a high-flier because she had brought so many medals.

Dutee had clinched silver in the 2018 Asian Games which was the first in the event since 1998 but she cited that coming out of the closet and openly talking about same-sex relationships made her proud. Dutee, in return, responded by stating, "Thanks @nusratchirps for such powerful words and standing in solidarity with me.". In response, Nusrat, who is the well-known faces in Tollywood and who won the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections in Basirhat, said, "#muchrespect, @DuteeChand."

Dutee Chand had said "coming out of the closet" was better than "hiding" her personal life from the public. Dutee made headlines in May when she made public her relationship with a woman from her village in Odisha. Her family objected to the relationship and her older sister even threatened to disown her, but Dutee was unmoved, expressing her desire to settle down with the woman.

"There is no pressure on me at the moment because of my personal life, especially since I have come out of the closet. In fact, I used to feel pressured and scared when I was in hiding," the 23-year-old Dutee told PTI in an interview. "After speaking up (about her relationship), a lot of people have shown support and appreciated my efforts and that really makes me feel good," she added.

Dutee again made headlines when she became the first Indian woman track and field athlete to clinch a gold in the World University Games last month by winning the 100m dash in a time of 11.32 seconds. She is now set to run in the National Inter-State Championships, beginning on Tuesday in Lucknow in a bid to qualify for the World Championships, to be held in Doha next month.

"I will take part in the National Inter-State and I can assure you that you will see a lot of improvement in my timing," said the India's fastest woman who holds the 100m national record of 11.26 seconds.
