Falcons TTC were crowned as the champions of the inaugural CEAT Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) after they overpowered Shaze Challengers 14-9 in the final at the NSCI in Mumbai on Sunday.
In the opening match of the title clash, world No. 42 Li Ping notched a victory over Sanil Shetty in the men's singles to put Shaze Challengers ahead with a 2-1 victory over Mumbai boy.
All the games of the match were very closely fought and though Li Ping edged out Shetty in the first two games, the second one being in the golden point, Shetty scooped one important point for his team winning the third game.
Falcons TTC made a resounding comeback into the clash in the second match of the tie after in-form Wu Yang decimated Mouma Das 3-0 in the women's singles to put the Falcons ahead 4-2. Falcons' pair of Sanil Shetty and Lee Ho Ching trumped Soumyajit Ghosh and Petrissa Solja 3-0 to extend their team's lead to a massive 7-2.
