New Delhi:

Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu on Friday stormed into the women’s singles semi-finals of the $400,000 Hong Kong Open Superseries badminton tournament.

With her stupendous performance, Sindhu defeated her Japanese opponent Akane Yamaguchi 21-12, 21-19 in the quarter finals at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

Second seeded PV Sindhu completely outplayed world no. 3 Yamaguchi and took only 37 minutes to beat her in the quarters.

Sindhu avenged her French Open Superseries defeat against Yamaguchi last month and it was her 4th victory over the Japanese in total six outings.

Sindhu will now face former World Champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand in the semi-finals on Saturday.

It would not be an easy target for the Indian shuttler to defeat former world no. 1 Intanon who enjoys an upper hand over Sindhu.

In their 5 clashes so far, Sindhu has managed to win only once while Ratchanok Intanon emerged victories four times.

However, Intanon has never reached the finals of Hong Kong Open Superseries while Sindhu finished runner-up last year after being defeated by Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei.

Ratchanok reached into top four after beating her Canadian opponent Michelle Li 21-14, 21-16 in the other quarterfinal.
