The International Olympic Committee on Wednesday named Paris and Los Angeles as hosts of the 2024 and 2028 summer Games. With the declaration, a debate that when India will host Olympics has raked up in the country.
In 2010, India had hosted Commonwealth Games but it has never hosted the Olympics. However, the country has some future plans to bid for the mega international sporting event.
Earlier in June this year, Indian Olympics Association (IOA) president N. Ramachandran in an interview with Reuters has expressed India’s willingness to host the mega event.
Ramachandran said, “India’s Olympic Association has asked the government for permission to bid for the 2032 Olympics and 2030 Asian Games as part of a drive to put the country at the heart of the international sporting community.”
Now the ball is in government’s court whether it can develop the required infrastructure for the world’s biggest sporting event. Given the fact that India’s Sports Minister Rajyavaradhan Singh Rathore himself was an Olympian, he can give his go ahead host the event.
“From my part, I am telling them if you bid, I will make sure you get it,” Ramachandran had said.
