PV Sindhu overcame a stiff resistance from World Champion Carolina Marin to clinch the India Open women's singles title played out at the Siri Fort stadium on Sunday. Sindhu won the title clash by defeating her Spanish opponent with the score of 21-19 and 21-16 in two straight sets.
Sindhu who had lost to the Spanish badminton queen in the title clash at Rio Olympics extracted sweet revenge to win the India Open Superseries title in front her home fans.
In front of a partisan home crowd at the Sirifort Sports Complex, the third-seeded Indian dominated the match from the start to win the summit clash in 46 minutes.

The win also narrowed down Sindhu's head-to-head record against the Spaniard to 4-5. Sindhu had last defeated Marin in the BWF Super Series in Dubai last year.

The two shuttlers had last met in BWF Super Series where Sindhu managed to conquer past Carolina 21-17, 21-13 in 46 minutes to enter the last four stage.
